Georgetown launching power outage text reporting service April 10
The City of Georgetown is launching a power outage text reporting service for customers beginning April 10. The city will automatically sign up residents using the phone number associated with their account.

City of Georgetown wins $1 million to help develop 'virtual power plant'
It was one of nine cities recognized for innovative solutions to urgent issues. You may remember we first told you about their idea back in March. It was their submission to the Bloomberg Philanthropies U.S. Mayors Challenge. Georgetown is already using 100 percent renewable energy, but the city plans to lease rooftop space on properties to install solar panels. The change would stop the need to purchase energy from outside sources.

Wind Plant Powering Georgetown 30 seconds
Georgetown, Texas is receiving power from the Spinning Spur 3 wind project near Amarillo. Wind power now provides most of Georgetown's energy needs. When a new solar plant comes online in 2016, Georgetown will be once of the first cities in the U.S. to be powered by 100% renewable energy.
